About Women’s Home Networking

Women’s Home Networking was founded by Susan Wu in 2007 after she entered an unconventional relationship with real estate. Susan wanted to buy a home in the Bay Area of California—but didn’t want to go it alone. “I wanted to pool my resources with another woman and find a house to divvy up,” she said. Susan hoped to transform a single-family home into two distinct living areas. “It seemed like the ideal solution. I love the communal aspect of apartment living, and at the same time, value my privacy.”

In expensive areas the housing market can put the squeeze on women who often earn less than men. The income gap widens as women grow older, making it harder for them to snap up their dream homes.

Susan’s smart solution—sharing a house—required a partner. Scouring local newspapers and on-line listings turned up no compatible housemates. That’s why Susan created Women’s Home Networking: to help savvy women like herself find housing solutions.  Many women—whether they are first-time renters just out of college, prospective buyers or investors—have trouble finding the right housing partners and the right housing situations.  Women’s Home Networking can help you find both. We link women to people and places.
